The crisis
Assam floods every year. 2024 was different.
Assam sits in one of the most flood-prone river basins in Asia. The Brahmaputra and its tributaries flood predictably every monsoon — but the 2024 floods breached embankments that had held for decades.
28 of 35 districts were affected. 30 lakh people displaced. More than 150,000 people sheltered in relief camps — many losing everything: livestock, stored grain, farming tools.
The worst-hit communities are subsistence farmers and daily wage workers with no savings buffer. Recovery without external support takes 3–5 years. With targeted aid, it can be 6–12 months.

On the ground
ActionAid India has been present in Assam for over 25 years, with established community networks across the most vulnerable districts.
Why ActionAid?
ActionAid India is one of the few organisations with last-mile reach in rural Assam. They don’t work through intermediaries — their field staff live in the communities they serve.
All funds from this campaign are ringfenced for Assam flood response. At campaign close, ActionAid sends Playda a receipt and field report. We publish it here.
